Falling leaves - An alphabet class game

 



Cut out autumn leaves and write on each one a letter from the alphabet. Ask the students to gather around you. Hold the leaves on your hands, say “1,2,3” and throw all the leaves up in the air. The children need to take one leaf, read the sound on it and think of a word which starts from that sound.

Put the fire out! An alphabet class game

 


Print and cut out flames with the alphabet letters. Stick the flames on the wall. Use tape to make a ladder on the floor. Tell students that they are firefighters, and they need to climb up the ladder to put the fire out. Give to two of the children plastic spray bottles and ask them to spray one of the fires. While spraying the fire, they need to sound out the letter. For example, they are spraying the letter A and they have to make the sound of the letter /a/. Repeat till all students have a turn and all the fires have been put out.

Monster cookies! - An alphabet class game



Cut out a monster from cardboard and cookies with the alphabet letters. Ask students to take turns at feeding the monster cookies. How many alphabet cookies can the monster eat? Perhaps divide the student into 2 teams and give to each team 5 minutes to feed the monster. The students have to name the letter of each cookie while giving it to the monster.

Wake up the dinosaurs! - An alphabet class game

Cut out from carton paper 26 fossils or eggs and 26 dinosaurs. On each one of the fossils /eggs write the lower case letters of the alphabet whereas on the dinosaurs the upper case ones. Hide the fossils/eggs in the classroom and place the dinosaurs in the middle of the room. Ask the pupils to wake up the dinosaurs by finding the fossils/eggs and match them to the right dinosaurs.

Blast off! - An alphabet class game

Divide the students in two teams. Print and cut out planets from cardboard. Also print and cut out spaceships from cardboard. Stick on each planet and on each spaceship a letter from the alphabet. Make sure that each spaceship matches a planet. Spread them all over the floor and shout out “Blast off!” Each team has at their disposal 10 minutes to match all the spaceships with the correct planets. For each spaceship that students match with the correct planet, their team gets 1 point. The team with most points earns 2 stickers at the end of the game whereas the other team takes only 1.

It’s time for laundry! - An alphabet class game


Take 26 clothespins and write on each one of them the upper case letters of the alphabet. Cut out from colorful carton paper 26 T-shirts and write on each one of them the lower case letters. Use 2 cups and lace in between them a rope to create a hills hoist. Ask the pupils to do laundry by matching the upper case with the lower case letters and hang the T-shirts on the rope.
